Designed Learning Strategies for our courses.
Our private tutoring program at Queen Elizabeth Academy uses one on one, personalized lessons that cover every concept, and each step is explained using homework problems.
Math and science involve a step-by-step learning process. This means that a good foundation is critical for any student’s long term success. Our math and science tutors teach the concepts to help the students to understand, instead of memorizing. From our experience, this is the best tutoring approach for building our students' foundations.
Our seasoned tutors focus on providing easy-to-understand, step-by-step explanations during math and science tutoring sessions. Usually, we address foundational gaps and to re-explain the steps to clarify any misunderstanding.
Ideally, students should begin from Grade 7 or 8 if they must build their foundational math skills. The essential skills include fractions, integers, and algebra. When they get into high school, they can learn advanced skills like graph plotting and reading, equations, and quadratics. Without these skills, the students struggle with math as he moves from one grade to another. We believe that it is vital to address learning gaps to make learning seamless for the students.
Most times, students lazily try to memorize math, but fail to understand that the best practice is learning the principles and how to use them. When students learn math this way, it`s easier for them to solve new problems without losing marks. So, students need to understand the “why” behind the concepts and steps, and know when to apply “what”. With step-by-step explanation, we teach each student these concepts.
At QEA, our focus is on foundational building, re-visiting the students` learning gaps, and helping them understand and internalize critical concepts instead of merely memorizing them. With extra practice and assignments, their math skill is sharpened.
We live in a culture of texting and pinging. This makes many students lazy. In fact, many of them do not know how to write with decent grammar or construct proper English sentences. The QEA English tutoring program helps the student to develop sound grammar while also building their writing skill and using a step-by-step approach.
Critical thinking is an important skill that embellishes students` grades in high school. A good grasp of critical thinking helps students when providing critical analysis of any plot. Tests of English language examine this skill in students, which is why we teach our students to first understand a story in-depth before linking the main plot to other relevant themes in the story.
Essentially, our tutors build the students` reading, writing, and critical analysis skills. At the same time, we also work with the students based on their regular school curriculum.
At Queen Elizabeth Academy, we have a strong culture of providing high-quality education to our students. Most of our students have reached high grounds academically; some are currently studying in top universities with scholarships ranging from $2,000 - $23,000. Every alumnus of QEA built a strong foundation, which helps in pursuing their chosen path in universities. Some of our past students are currently in top medical schools, others are pursuing their Masters and Ph.D., while some others currently others work for leading global brands.
QE has a strong track record on supporting our students to academic excellence and long term success. Our tutoring program is private one on one, tailored towards the strengths and weaknesses of your child. Our tutoring program is lesson based, which means we don't sit back and wait for questions, because often times they don't know what to ask. We actively teach lessons and provide weekly homework for practice.
QE provides quality education. What does this mean? To achieve high grade, it is important to have a systematic approach to build your child's foundation: Lessons, Homework Practice and coaching. For lessons, we actively teach the materials, organizing knowledge in step by step manner. This way, we facilitate understanding, not memorizing equations or steps. We provide package of homework practice, so that our students can learn a variety of problems and prepare well for tests. We also provide past tests and mock exams, such that we teach test writing techniques to optimize their performance.
Academic excellence comes with understanding and hardwork. We take care of the understanding part in our lessons, where we teach the concepts in a easy-to-understand manner. to acheive high grade, the students need to practice and establish a good routine for working through homework. Making their own study notes will be preferred. We also teach test writing strategies, such as tackling multiple choice and complex application questions.
QE is Ministry accredited, which means we offer high school courses. We know the curriculum of each subject inside-out. We know what foundation building block is important leading to the next grade. As we have worked with 5,000+ students over the past 9 years, we are familiar with the common weakness and challenge they face on each subject. Therefore, we focus on what matters most to achieve success. Our students were admitted to top universities: Waterloo, Laurier, Queen's, Western, McGill with scholarship from $2,000 to $50,000.
The average tenure of our tutors at QE is at least 3 years. Many of our tutors stay with QE for 5-6 years. In this way, they are experienced and have worked with hundreds of students. Many of them have taught our 110 hours credit course. New tutors need to go through a rigorous audition process in order to join QE. This includes showing indepth knowledge in our test and being able to explain concepts in a way that students can understand.
We charge per month (4 or 8 lessons a month). Depending on the program, we offer very competitive and fair rate. We provide much more value than the average tutoring centers or go-to-home agencies: successful experience, coaching, homework package, mock tests and exams, test writing strategies and lesson based tutoring.
