Math Tutoring in Burlington

Build your Math foundations and confidence with QEA #1 rated math tutoring program

Math is cumulative. Hence, each grade passed well is a building block for the next. We believe that every student needs to understand and apply all necessary concepts to succeed. But unfortunately, most students only memorize mathematical solutions and neglect the principles. This method of learning math only creates foundational gaps, which later reappears to hunt the student. Understanding the concepts is a prerequisite for getting a solid grasp of math.

Queen Elizabeth Academy is accredited by the Ministry of Education, and we have a vast understanding of the curriculum. Your child can rely on our expertise and knowledge to overcome foundational gaps. We offer easy-to-understand lessons with step-by-step explanations.

Common challenges that most students encounter in math:

1. Weak foundational skills in math

Ideally, students should begin from Grade 7 or 8 if they must build their foundational math skills. The essential skills include fractions, integers, and algebra. When they get into high school, they can learn advanced skills like graph plotting and reading, equations, and quadratics. Without these skills, the students struggle with math as he moves from one grade to another. We believe that it is vital to address learning gaps to make learning seamless for the students.

2. Memorize instead of understand

Most times, students lazily try to memorize math, but fail to understand that the best practice is learning the principles and how to use them. When students learn math this way, it`s easier for them to solve new problems without losing marks. So, students need to understand the “why” behind the concepts and steps, and know when to apply “what”. With step-by-step explanation, we teach each student these concepts.

The QEA math tutoring program is one on one, private.

At QEA, our focus is on foundational building, re-visiting the students` learning gaps, and helping them understand and internalize critical concepts instead of merely memorizing them. With extra practice and assignments, their math skill is sharpened.

Build your English foundational skills - writing, reading comprehension, and critical analysis

English is a pivotal subject in both elementary and high school. A proper understanding of English is essential if students must pass high school and secure university admission. Excellence in English is, therefore, a necessity. Like math, it demands mastery of a particular skill set. These skills are essay writing, reading comprehension, grammar, and critical analysis.

Our tutors at QEA English tutoring program focus on helping students to build these skills. We aim to support the students based on their school curriculum. So we use the curriculum to teach them these skills. For instance, the essay writing lessons focus on teaching the students how to write a concise and persuasive thesis, how to build stellar introductions, and how to construct arguments with quotes from Shakespeare or their novels.

Common challenges that most students encounter in English:

1. Students lack proper sentence structures

We live in a culture of texting and pinging. This makes many students lazy. In fact, many of them do not know how to write with decent grammar or construct proper English sentences. The QEA English tutoring program helps the student to develop sound grammar while also building their writing skill and using a step-by-step approach.

2. Students’ essays lack critical analysis and are penalized for marks.

Critical thinking is an important skill that embellishes students` grades in high school. A good grasp of critical thinking helps students when providing critical analysis of any plot. Tests of English language examine this skill in students, which is why we teach our students to first understand a story in-depth before linking the main plot to other relevant themes in the story.

The QEA English tutoring program is one on one, private.

Essentially, our tutors build the students` reading, writing, and critical analysis skills. At the same time, we also work with the students based on their regular school curriculum.

Some of our past students are currently in top medical schools, others are pursuing their Masters and Ph.D., while some others currently others work for leading global brands.
