The QEA Approach
to Richmond Hill students

Our private tutoring programs at Queen Elizabeth Academy offers one on one, personalized lessons, covering important concepts and delivered with step-by-step explanations on homework problems.

1. Building Foundations

Math and science have a progressive learning pattern. Hence, it's essential to build a solid foundation to ensure students' long term success. For instance, in our math and science tutoring sessions, we teach the concepts behind each topic and help our students to understand them instead of memorizing the materials. This tutoring approach is vital for building the students’ foundation.

2. Step by step explanations

For our science and math tutoring programs, our tutors provide easy-to-understand, step-by-step explanations to the students. Our tutors pay attention to the students' foundational learning gaps and then re-explain the steps to clarify any misunderstanding during each tutoring session.

Build your Math foundations and confidence with QEA #1 rated math tutoring program

The process of learning math is progressive, meaning that each grade level is a stepping stone to the next one. Therefore, students need to understand the fundamental concepts at each level and be able to apply them. However, most students prefer to memorize math rather than understand it, thereby creating foundational gaps that often come back and hurt their marks in the future.

QEA is accredited by the Ministry of Education. Our in-depth understanding of the curriculum combined with our wealth of experience in teaching maths gives us a deeper insight to help your child learn maths with ease. We also pay particular attention to the students` foundational learning gaps.

Common challenges that most students encounter in math:

1. Weak foundational skills in math

To build solid foundational skills in math, students should start at Grade 7 or 8. The essential math skills include fractions, integers and algebra. In high schools, the critical skills include graphing, solving equations, and quadratic problems. Without these foundational skills, students will likely struggle with math through school each year. The key, however, is to address the foundational gapS with proper lessons and practice questions.

2. Memorize instead of understand

Students often memorize math, instead of understanding it - this is the proper way to learn math. The issue with this approach is that the students often struggle with problems when the teacher changes the question. This inevitably leads to a loss of marks. Understanding math involves understanding the “why” behind each concept or step, and knowing when to apply “what”. Our math lessons focus on helping students understand these concepts, which we teach using step-by-step explanations.

The QEA math tutoring program is one on one, private.

Our focus at QEA is building our students` foundation and re-address their learning gaps. We help them understand instead of memorizing. We also provide extra practice problems to strengthen their understanding and math skills.

Build your English foundational skills - writing, reading comprehension, and critical analysis

English is one of the pivotal subjects in high school because all university programs require a good English grade. But achieving English good demands that students have a set of critical skills, which most students often miss. These skills include essay writing, reading comprehension, grammar and critical analysis.

QEA English tutoring program focuses on building these 3 critical skills: reading comprehension, essay writing and critical analysis. And we aim to support our students through their school curriculum while teaching and helping them develop these skills. In our essay writing lessons, for instance, we teach students how to write a concise and compelling thesis, how to create attention-grabbing introductions, and how to build reasonable arguments using quotes from Shakespeare or other relevant novels.

Common challenges that most students encounter in English:

1. Students lack proper sentence structures

Today, most students are accustomed to sending out short messages using their phones. The challenge with this is that the habit is carried through to school writing, which eventually affects their grammar and sentence structure. At QEA, our English lessons are designed to discipline the students into developing better English structure and grammar in their writing work. We use a step-by-step approach to help them develop their writing skill.

2. Students’ essays lack critical analysis and are penalized for marks.

In high school, critical thinking accounts for a major part of students’ English grades. Many students are in the habit of simply stating the plot summary in their essays, instead of providing proper critical analysis. Unfortunately, this leads to loss of marks and poor grades. Our tracking style helps the students to go deeper into the story, and link the plot to other relevant themes in the story.

The QEA English tutoring program is one on one, private.

We carefully take the students through their curriculum while also helping them to build their skills in reading, writing and critical analysis.
