The QEA Approach
to Vaughan students

Tutoring in Vaughan

At Queen Elizabeth Academy, we offer all students a one-on-one, personalized tutoring approach in which we cover all essential concepts using detailed step-by-step explanations.

1. Building Foundations

Math and science follow a cumulative pattern, meaning that students need to build a good foundation to ensure long term success. In our math and science tutoring programs, we teach students the concepts, explaining why they need to understand them instead of memorizing materials. We deem this tutoring approach critical in building the student’s foundation.

2. Step by step explanations

For our science and math tutoring programs, we provide easy-to-understand, step-by-step explanations that students can easily understand. During each tutoring session, our tutors pay particular attention to students' foundational gaps, and also re-explaining the steps involved to clarify any misunderstanding.

Math Tutoring in Vaughan

Build your Math foundations and confidence with QEA #1 rated math tutoring program

Math is cumulative. Therefore, each grade level is a stepping stone unto the next. This means that students need to understand the concept and be able to apply all concepts. The challenge, however, is that most students are inclined to memorize math rather than understand the fundamental concepts that influence the result of each problem. Ignoring these concepts inevitably leads to the creation of foundational gaps that affect the students later.

Queen Elizabeth Academy is accredited by the Ministry of Education. Additionally, we have an in-depth understanding of the curriculum and vast experience in teaching maths. With particular attention to foundational gaps, we can help your child learn maths with ease.

Common challenges that most students encounter in math:

1. Weak foundational skills in math

To build good math foundational skills, it is ideal that students start at Grade 7 or 8, where they can easily build these skills, such as fractions, integers, and algebra. In high school, they can learn graphing, solving equations, and quadratics. Without these foundational skills, students will struggle with math from one grade level to another. The solution is to address the foundational gaps with the aid of proper lessons and practice problems.

2. Memorize instead of understand

The proper way to learn math is to understand it, but students tend to memorize math. The problem with this approach is that when the teacher changes the question, the students get stuck and may lose a large portion of their marks. Understanding math means understanding the “why” behind the concepts and steps and how to use them. Our math lessons at QEA focus on teaching these concepts with step-by-step explanations, and helping students learn and apply them.

The QEA math tutoring program is one on one, private.

We focus on building foundational skills and re-addressing the learning gaps of the student with sufficient practice questions. This strengthens their grasp of essential concepts.

Build your English foundational skills - writing, reading comprehension, and critical analysis

English is an essential subject in high school, because all university programs require good English grades. To achieve excellence in English, students must have some critical skills, such as essay writing, reading comprehension, and critical analysis skills. Unfortunately, most students lack these skills.

QEA English tutoring program focuses on building these 3 critical skills: reading comprehension, essay writing, and critical analysis. In each tutoring session, we aim to support our students through their school curriculum while developing these skills. During our essay writing lessons, we teach students how to write a great thesis, write introductions that captivate readers’ interests, and build reasonable arguments with quotes from Shakespeare or their novels.

Common challenges that most students encounter in English:

1. Students lack proper sentence structures

Recently, lots of students are accustomed to writing short messages on mobile devices. The use of these messaging platforms causes some students to develop poor writing habits, which is translated to actual school work. As a result, they lack proper grammar and sentence structure. QEA lessons are designed to discipline students to start using proper English structure and grammar, thereby developing their writing skills in a step-by-step manner.

2. Students’ essays lack critical analysis and are penalized for marks.

Critical thinking accounts for a significant portion of students' English grades in high school. Many students tend to only state plot summary when writing essays, instead of providing a concise critical analysis. This leads to a loss of marks and poor grades. Our style is to teach the students to go deeper into the story, and also learn how to link the plot to other themes in the story.

The QEA English tutoring program is one on one, private.

We build the students’ reading, writing, and critical analysis skills while also working through their regular school curriculum.

QE provides quality education. What does this mean? To achieve high grade, it is important to have a systematic approach to build your child's foundation: Lessons, Homework Practice and coaching.
