How can our IB Math tutor in Hong Kong help you?

IB Math is a challenging subject for a lot of students. The key challenge is that IB Math covers a variety of topics and they are all intricately connected. Therefore, students need to have a deep understanding of the materials and know how to apply them. Secondly it depends a solid foundation on the student's part. Math is cumulative, therefore the student at IB Math must master the earlier grade maths.

Memorizing steps and equations doesn't work in IB Math. Most questions in IB Math are application based. Different scenario request adjustment on the equations and the solution is often time very different. Understanding the concepts and knowing when to apply what is really the key to succeed in IB Math HK.

  • Review major concepts on each topic with you so that you can understand them, rather than simply memorize.

  • Teach you how to tackle tough IB Math application problems.

  • Target your weaknesses or any gaps in understanding.

  • Explain the rationale behind each step of the solution so that you can understand how to apply your knowledge.

  • Teach you strategies to tackle IB long-answer problems.

  • Provide you with comprehensive notes at the end of each class for further study.

IB Math SL

The IB Math SL syllabus approaches university difficulty. IB tutoring support is important. We have successful track record, in helping our IB students achieving 6 and 7. We provide quality lessons on teaching the concepts first, then showing the student how to apply the concept in difficult IB problems. IB Math is different from regular programs in its difficulty and a variety of problems. Learning how to solve each type of question is essential and this is what we teach.

IB Math HL

The IB Math HL syllabus introduce more advanced topics such as Poisson Distribution, integral by parts, vectors in 3D plane. These topics are usually taught in the second semester of year 1 university. Students in IB Math HL HK are expected to learn problem solving techniques to tackle multi-steps and multi-concepts problems. We teach these techniques at QE.

How We Teach IB Math

IB Math Tutor HK

1. Understand the concepts, not memorizing

In QE math tutoring sessions, we focus on laying a solid groundwork and grasping essential concepts. Understanding the 'why' behind formulas is as crucial as knowing 'how' to use them. We prioritize comprehension and practical application, enabling students to confidently tackle various math challenges. By emphasizing these skills, we aim to equip students with the tools they need to excel not only in QE math but also in their university studies.

2. Applying concepts to difficult IB problems

IB is all about being able to apply complex concepts into solving different types of problems.

We encourage students to think critically and creatively when faced with difficult questions. By practicing problem-solving techniques and applying concepts in diverse scenarios, students develop the confidence and skills needed to excel in IB math. Our goal is to empower students to approach any problem with a strategic mindset, ready to overcome even the toughest challenges.

3. IB Exam writing techniques

In QE math classes, we focus on honing essential IB exam techniques beyond problem-solving. Students learn effective time management strategies to navigate through the exam efficiently. We emphasize critical thinking skills to analyze complex problems and devise innovative solutions. Additionally, we provide guidance on tackling multiple-choice questions with precision and accuracy. By mastering these exam techniques, students are better prepared to excel in the IB assessments, confidently showcasing their understanding and maximizing their scores.

How to score high in IB Math HK

Welcome to Queen Elizabeth Academy, where we provide high quality Math tutoring HK for students who are attending high school. If you are seeking a Math tutor in HK, you have come to the right place!

IB Math

IB Math Tutor HK

IB Math comprises Standard Level (SL) and Higher Level (HL). SL resembles advanced high school math, like advanced functions and calculus, while HL mirrors first-year university difficulty. Alongside limits and derivatives, HL students tackle integration at a university level. Success in IB math hinges on understanding and connecting concepts, knowing when to apply them to solve problems effectively.

IB Math presents a significant challenge due to its broad scope and interconnected topics. Success hinges on a profound understanding of concepts and their application. Additionally, a solid foundation in prior math (grades 9-11) is crucial, as math builds cumulatively. While new concepts initiate problem-solving, subsequent steps rely heavily on foundational skills. Without these, students risk losing substantial marks in IB Math assessments.

In IB Math, success isn't about memorization—it's about understanding concepts and their application. Questions are scenario-based, requiring adjustments to equations. Solutions vary greatly. Knowing when and how to apply concepts is essential for success in IB Math.

Tips to score high in IB Math

Tip #1: Understanding the concept in depth with good explanations

To score high in IB math , students needs to understand the concept in depth, and the why behind it.

Understand the reasoning is important, in order to apply the logic to changing circumstances. Memorizing rules and formulas will not works

Tip #2: Understand how each sub-concept relates to each other

To excel in IB Math, grasp how each sub-concept interconnects. Understanding these relationships enhances problem-solving skills, facilitating a deeper comprehension of the subject and leading to higher scores.

The hard part for IB math, oftentimes is not how to work through an equation. But rather, it is knowing what equation to use students must recognize "clues" on a question and trigger related concepts, and then to figure out which equation to use.

With good explanation and lots of practice, studetns will master this skill!

Tip #3: Understand what the question is asking

Oftentimes, the IB long answer itself is very confusing. Students get swamped into a sea of algebra or parameters, without having a clear idea on what they are trying to solve.

Knowing the outcome, that is, knowing what the question is asking is very important. Is it asking for a number? an expression? an equation? or a proof?

Once you know the objective, oftentimes, clues will start coming out and you can find the path to the solution

Tip #4: Learn IB exam writing strategies

Oftentimes student study very hard on IB, but do not perform well. Why? Because they lack good exam writing strategies.

This includes time management (students waste too much time on questions they don't know, but neglect the questions they do know), multiple choice techniques, and other problem solving techniques.

At QE, we teach all these techniques to help students to achieve an optimal grade.
