Build your Math foundations and confidence with QEA #1 rated math tutoring program

Learning math is cumulative. Hence, each grade level is a building block for the next grade. Therefore, students need to understand all concepts and be able to apply them where appropriate. But most students tend to memorize procedures instead of understanding the concepts behind the procedures. Unfortunately, ignoring these concepts causes foundational gaps, which often come around and affect the students` grades.

QEA is an institution accredited by the Ministry of Education. Our vast understanding of the curriculum and rich teaching experience in math is why we can help your child learn maths with ease. We also pay particular attention to existing foundational gaps.

Common challenges that most students encounter in math:

1. Weak foundational skills in math

To build good math foundational skills, students should start at Grade 7 or 8, where they'll learn fractions, integers, and algebra. Then in high school, they`ll learn graphing, solving equations, and quadratics. Without strong foundational skills, students will struggle with math grade by grade. The key, therefore, is to develop these foundational skills with proper lessons and practice.

2. Memorize instead of understand

The right way to learn math is to understand it, but most students tend to memorize it. The problem with this approach is that when the teacher changes the question, the students get stuck and will lose marks. Hence, to understand math, students must understand the “why” behind every concept or step and know where and when to apply them. QEA lessons focus on helping students to understand and apply mathematical concepts with our step-by-step explanations.

The QEA math tutoring program is one on one, private.

We focus on foundational building, re-address the gaps of the student, to help them understand and not memorize. We also provide extra practice to strengthen their understanding and skills.

Build your English foundational skills - writing, reading comprehension, and critical analysis

English is important in high schools because you need a good English grade to get admitted to any university programs. And achieving good English grades requires you to have a set of very important skills, which lots of students are missing: essay writing, reading comprehension, grammar, and critical analysis.

At QEA English tutoring program classes, we focus on building critical English language skills: essay writing, reading comprehension, and critical analysis. We help our students develop these skills in line with their school curriculum. For instance, QEA essay writing lessons teach students how to write a concise and compelling thesis, introductory paragraphs that grab readers` attention, and how to build arguments from Shakespeare quotes or other novels.

Common challenges that most students encounter in English:

1. Students lack proper sentence structures

These days, students are accustomed to writing short messages. Unfortunately, the habit finds its way into school writing work. Such students` grammatical constructions inevitably lack good structure. QEA uses a step-by-step approach to discipline the student and addresses this challenge.

2. Students’ essays lack critical analysis and are penalized for marks.

Critical thinking is an essential aspect of the English language as a subject in high school. Many students are accustomed to stating the plot summary in their essays instead of providing proper critical analysis. Of course, this tells on their grades. We teach students how to glean deep insights from a story and then link the plot to other relevant themes in the story.

The QEA English tutoring program is one on one, private.

We build the students’ reading, writing, and critical analysis skills while also working through their regular school curriculum.

Science Tutoring in Oakville

Science is an important subject in high school, pathing the way for students to enter life or engineering route to university. There are boundless opportunities in specializing in science in medicine, denistry, pharmacy, optometry, engineering and research.

Science is one of the most challenging subjects in high school. It combines theory with calculation (math), in a manner that students need to have a strong grasp in understanding, problem solving and dealing with multiple step problems to perform well on it.

Science is a combination of math, analytical skill, memorizing skills, understanding and applying concepts.

Common challenges that most students face in science:

1. Weak foundational skills on science

Students begin science in grade 9 and 10, and can choose their science path in grade 11, including chemistry, biology or physics. The foundational skills they learned in grade 9 and 10 becomes applicable, and their success will depend on a solid foundaiton built in junior high school.

For example, in chemistry, if the student has difficult naming compounds and balancing chemical equations in grade 10, then they will face significant difficulty throughout chemistry 11. Science is cumulative, therefore building a good foundaiton is the important first step to excel in science.

2. Science application problems
(Chemistry, Physics, Biology)

In solving application problems, students are mostly accustomed to plugging in equations similar to math. This is a wrong approach. Science application queations composed of “situation based” questions, which requires the student to analyze deeply before applying the numbers. For these multiple steps problems, students need to visualize the problem, understand which concepts to apply, and which parameters / givens are involved, then he can correctly apply the equation and substitute the numbers. We teach this approach on our chemistry and physics programs with outstanding success on the students.

3. Students tend to memorize science concepts rather than understand them

How can tutoring help my child?

Our tutoring program is lesson based, which means we don't sit back and wait for questions, because often times they don't know what to ask. We actively teach lessons and provide weekly homework for practice.

How is QE tutoring different from others?

QE provides quality education. What does this mean? To achieve high grade, it is important to have a systematic approach to build your child's foundation: Lessons, Homework Practice and coaching. For lessons, we actively teach the materials, organizing knowledge in step by step manner. This way, we facilitate understanding, not memorizing equations or steps. We provide package of homework practice, so that our students can learn a variety of problems and prepare well for tests. We also provide past tests and mock exams, such that we teach test writing techniques to optimize their performance.

How can my child achieve higher grade?

Academic excellence comes with understanding and hardwork. We take care of the understanding part in our lessons, where we teach the concepts in a easy-to-understand manner. to acheive high grade, the students need to practice and establish a good routine for working through homework. Making their own study notes will be preferred. We also teach test writing strategies, such as tackling multiple choice and complex application questions.

What are QE's credentials?

QE is Ministry accredited, which means we offer high school courses. We know the curriculum of each subject inside-out. We know what foundation building block is important leading to the next grade. As we have worked with 5,000+ students over the past 9 years, we are familiar with the common weakness and challenge they face on each subject. Therefore, we focus on what matters most to achieve success. Our students were admitted to top universities: Waterloo, Laurier, Queen's, Western, McGill with scholarship from $2,000 to $50,000.

What tutor will be assigned to my child?

The average tenure of our tutors at QE is at least 3 years. Many of our tutors stay with QE for 5-6 years. In this way, they are experienced and have worked with hundreds of students. Many of them have taught our 110 hours credit course. New tutors need to go through a rigorous audition process in order to join QE. This includes showing indepth knowledge in our test and being able to explain concepts in a way that students can understand.

How much does tutoring cost?

We charge per month (4 or 8 lessons a month). Depending on the program, we offer very competitive and fair rate. We provide much more value than the average tutoring centers or go-to-home agencies: successful experience, coaching, homework package, mock tests and exams, test writing strategies and lesson based tutoring.
