The QEA Approach
to Guelph students

Tutoring in Guelph

Queen Elizabeth Academy’s private tutoring programs offer one-on-one, customized lessons that cover vital and basic concepts, using step-by-step explanations on homework problems.

1. Building Foundations

Math and science are cumulative. Therefore, we encourage our students to build a good foundation for long term success. In our math and science tutoring classes, we teach the foundational concepts and help our students to understand and apply them, instead of merely memorizing materials. This tutoring approach is essential in building the students’ foundation.

2. Step by step explanations

For our science and math tutoring programs, we provide easy-to-understand lessons and we use a step-by-step explanation approach to explain every concept. During our session, our tutors pay attention to students' foundational gaps, and to re-explain the steps to clarify any misunderstanding.

Math Tutoring in Guelph

Build your Math foundations and confidence with QEA #1 rated math tutoring program

Learning math is cumulative. Hence, each grade level is a building block for the next grade. Therefore, students need to understand all concepts and be able to apply them where appropriate. But most students tend to memorize procedures instead of understanding the concepts behind the procedures. Unfortunately, ignoring these concepts causes foundational gaps, which often come around and affect the students` grades.

QEA is an institution accredited by the Ministry of Education. Our vast understanding of the curriculum and rich teaching experience in math is why we can help your child learn maths with ease. We also pay particular attention to existing foundational gaps.

Common challenges that most students encounter in math:

1. Weak foundational skills in math

To build good math foundational skills, it is ideal for the students to start at Grade 7 or 8, where they can learn essential skill sets such as fractions, integers and algebra are critical. Later on, in high school, they learn graphing, equations, and quadratics. And without these skills, students will likely struggle with math year after year. So, we address the foundational gaps with relevant lessons and practice questions.

2. Memorize instead of understand

Students tend to memorize math, instead of understanding the concepts. But the problem with memorizing is that students will get stuck and lose marks if they`re faced with different problems. Understanding math basically means to understand the “why” behind the concepts or steps and also know how and when to apply them. This is why our lessons focus on helping students to understand and apply essential concepts, using step-by-step explanations to teach them.

The QEA math tutoring program is one on one, private.

We focus on foundational building, re-addressing students` learning gaps, and helping them understand instead of memorizing. Additionally, we provide further practice questions to strengthen their understanding and skills.

Build your English foundational skills - writing, reading comprehension, and critical analysis

English is an essential high school subject, as students require good English grades to be admitted to all university programs. And achieving excellent English grades in high school demands having a set of essential skills, which most students are missing: essay writing, reading comprehension, grammar and critical analysis.

QEA English tutoring program focuses on building students' skills in reading comprehension, essay writing, and critical analysis. Our tutors aim to support the students through their school curriculum by teaching and helping them develop these skills. During our essay writing lessons, we teach our students how to write a concise and outstanding thesis, how to craft introductions to grab readers' interests, and how to build arguments using quotes from Shakespeare or other recommended novels.

Common challenges that most students encounter in English:

1. Students lack proper sentence structures

Quite recently, lots of students have become accustomed to writing short messages on their phone - a habit that leads to poor grammar and sentence structure in school writing. QEA lessons are designed in a way that disciplines the students into using proper English structure and grammar. As a result, they develop their writing skills using our step-by-step guide.

2. Students’ essays lack critical analysis and are penalized for marks.

When it comes to achieving good English grades in high school, critical thinking accounts for a significant portion of students' grades. Unfortunately, a lot of students are accustomed to just stating the plot summary in their essays, instead of providing detailed and concise critical analysis. As a result, the students' grades suffer. Thankfully, our tutors at QEA teach the students to go deeper into the story and to link the plot to other connected themes in the story.

The QEA English tutoring program is one on one, private.

At Queen Elizabeth Academy, we build our students’ English skills in reading, writing and critical analysis, while also working through their regular school curriculum.
