Grade 9 Core French is a requirement for all high school students, but many struggle due to gaps in their foundation from Grade 8, particularly in grammar and oral communication. The shift from basic vocabulary to more complex grammar, sentence structures, and tenses can be overwhelming, especially when mastering verb conjugations, gendered nouns, and applying French in real-life contexts.
In grade 10 French, students are expected to write essays in French. This means that students must master sentence structure and grammar as foundational skills. Working with a French tutor Prince George can help bridge gaps and provide students with the support needed to excel in French.
At QE, we focus on building a strong language foundation through grammar in context, listening, speaking, and writing skills—the key areas tested in Core French. We focus on school curriculum and preparing students for French tests in these 4 areas. All these require regular work and practice which we will provide. Our 1 on 1 approach allot dedicated time on writing, grammar and conversational French to prepare students for French tests
Grade 11 French can feel like a big step up for many students. This is the year where things get more advanced—students are expected to write essays, use more complex grammar, and understand French literature and culture. It’s not just about knowing the basics anymore; it’s about connecting ideas, using the right tenses, and being able to express opinions clearly in French.
For some students, this can be overwhelming, especially if they’re still struggling with things like verb conjugations, tricky grammar rules, or writing strong sentences. On top of that, participating in class discussions or analyzing French texts can be a real challenge without a solid foundation. A French tutor Prince George can make these complex topics easier to grasp through personalized guidance.
Passe compose is a notible example. Students struggle with multiple rules and need to apply them in different circumstances, such as whether it is masculine or feminine
At QE, we tackle grade 11 French with the foundation up. In our 1 on 1 session, we teach the rules clearly and practice together with the student in constructing sentences from simple to complex. We then proceed with them to more advanced sentence structure. This is needed as the student will be asked to write essays in French.
AP French is an exciting but challenging course. It’s a big jump from regular French classes, as students are expected to communicate almost entirely in French and engage with complex topics like global challenges, science, and culture. The AP exam itself tests a wide range of skills—listening to authentic French audio, reading advanced texts, writing persuasive essays, and even recording spoken responses.
In the AP exam, students are evaluated based on 4 categories: 1) replying on an email 2) write a full argumentative essay from 3 differnet citing sources 3) Engage in a conversation (recorded) and 4) Make a presentation on a topic related to French culture.
Working with a French tutor Prince George can make a significant difference by providing personalized support to master these skills.
At this point, the students need to equip with advanced French skills, with a solid foudational knowledge. At QE, we help strengthen this foundation. Because our French lessons are 1 on 1, we will be able to tailor the lesson towards the student weakness and gaps, and bring him back on track in his weak areas. This is important for the student to score well in AP French.
IB French can be a tough but rewarding course. Whether your child is in French B (SL or HL) or Ab Initio, they’re expected to develop strong language skills while exploring global themes like identity, social relationships, and cultural diversity. The program challenges students to read authentic texts, write structured essays, engage in discussions, and respond to audio prompts—all in French.
For many students, keeping up with the curriculum can be overwhelming. Grammar becomes more complex, vocabulary expectations expand, and expressing ideas clearly in both writing and speaking requires precision. The Internal Assessments (oral presentations and conversations) and External Exams can be especially stressful without focused preparation and regular practice. A French tutor Prince George can provide the targeted support needed to navigate these challenges effectively.
That’s where we can help. At QE, we focus on building the skills students need to succeed in IB French. Our one-on-one sessions are tailored to your child’s needs—whether it’s mastering tricky grammar rules, expanding vocabulary, improving their essay writing, or building confidence in spoken French. We also guide students through IB-specific tasks, like preparing for oral assessments and honing strategies for the Paper 1 and Paper 2 exams.
