QE tutor Philip teaching a QE student
Welcome to Queen Elizabeth Academy, where we provide high quality Private 1 on 1 tutoring to our students.

How can our Math tutor in Richmond Hill help you?

Math is a challenging subject. It is cumulative in a sense that, if you miss the foundation or have gaps, the next year you will run into the same problem. So building a foundation is the first steps.

QE teaching approach is based on understanding, not memorizing

Memorizing steps and equations doesn't work because your teacher will change the questions on tests. Students need to understand the concepts and learn how to apply them. This means understanding the why behind the concepts and knowing how each piece fits together in the big picture.

All QEA math tutoring in Richmond Hill is one on one private. We will teach the full lesson and review what you have learned during that week. In this way, you won't miss anything.

Math 11 - MCR3U - Math Tutoring Richmond Hill

Grade II Math is a major stepping stone into more advanced math in the 12th grade. From experience, we've seen that lots of students at this stage are often at a crossroads. Many of them do not know whether to choose the Mixed keel math course or the Academic level math course. But we usually advise them to go for the Academic level math, as it gives them options to choose from a more diverse range of university courses. The challenge is that they'll have to do more work. So unless they are certain of the path they want to take, we encourage them to go for the Advanced level math course.

There are several challenging units in grade II Math, such as exponents, transformation, trigonometry graphing, and trigonometry identities. In fact, it is at this level that they get introduced to proofs. The simpler units include quadratics, series, and sequences.

Math 12 - MHF4U - Math Tutoring Richmond Hill

Advanced Functions, students learn units like factoring, graphing, trigonometry, and exponents. Most university programs require this course as a prerequisite, hence they very important. Typically, students will build upon the skills they learned in the Grade 11 course. At this point, things can get even tougher for an average student. Some units, such as polynomial functions, are quite simple, while others, such as trigonometry and proofs are on the hard side. For this reason, some students have described Advanced Functions as a rollercoaster ride of a course, considering all the thrills and challenges it entails.

IB SL and HL Tutoring (Grade 11-12)

The IB SL and HL syllabus approaches university difficulty. IB tutoring support is important. We have successful track record, in helping our IB students achieving 6 and 7. We provide quality lesson on teaching the concepts first, then showing the student how to apply the concept in difficult IB problems. IB is different from regular program in its difficulty and a variety of problems. Learning how to solve each type of questions is essential and this is what we teach.

Beside this, we provide IB level worksheets, so that our students can practice on a weekly basis, and accustomed to its level of difficulty. We also guide our students to purchase IB exams, so that they build confidence in tackling the IB final exam.

Why do QE students achieve higher marks?

QE Foundation approach to tutoring

Step 1.

Review the concepts from school

To build a good foundation, students must understand the concepts first. QE is Ministry accredited, we have lesson plans on every unit, down to every single step. We teach the concepts first and then teach them how to apply them.

Step 2.

Go over school homework and our Test-level worksheets - better preparation for application test questions

Students can’t memorize solutions. They must understand the rationale behind each step and that’s what we teach.

Step 3.

Weekly Test-level worksheets + Mock exams

Teachers sometimes give easy homework and put on tough tests. QE develops our own worksheets that are on par with tests' difficulty, especially on application problems.

For most subjects, we provide mock exams to simulate an exam-writing environment. This will reduce stress.

Step 4.

QE students get Seminars on Study skills and test writing strategies to build the students long term success

We provide seminars throughout the year for our students.

We focus on building the long-term success of the student - on study skills, time management, test writing strategies, and how to reduce test anxieties.

Agencies/tutor centers Random approaches

Agency/center tutors come to the session empty-handed - students get a low grade

They randomly answer some questions from the students and burn out the hour.

Kids often don’t know what to ask - they don’t know what they don’t know.

As a result, students get poor grades and develop foundation gaps, which will damage their grades in future years.

Agency tutors have limited access to test-level problems

Most of the textbook problems are easy, whereas the teacher gives tough problems on tests. 30% of each test is based on application problems to which they have no access. Therefore, their students get low grades.

Lack of extra worksheets. No test-level difficulty problems

Their students get low grades due to a lack of practice

None. Students don’t learn any study skills or test writing strategies from Agencies/centers

Thank you QE - for the Foundation!

The QEA Approach to Math Tutoring in Richmond Hill
 - How is our math tutoring lessons run?
Private 1 on 1, Teaching based Math tutoring - that focuses on understanding, not memorizing
For each session in Math Tutoring Richmond Hill, you will get:
  • A full lesson on the concepts, review what you learn during the week. e.g. What is domain and range? What are the types of problems? What are the steps? (example from Math 10)
  • Step by step explanation of major application / thinking problems. Math students mostly stumbled upon application / thinking problems. This part is very difficult, as it requires deep understanding of the concepts and good explanation. Your teacher will change the questions all the time and to solve them, you need to understand and apply.
  • Good notes from our lesson board. As we teach the materials, we write everything down - explanations, solutions etc. These are valuable notes you can keep and use for reviewing for future math courses.
