How to Achieve High Grades in English

How to achieve high grades in English - QE English Summer Camp

Common challenges that most students (g6-8) face in English

1. Student write the way they text.

Many students struggle with English writing because they lack a solid understanding of grammar and sentence structure. This deficiency often shows in their schoolwork, where ideas may be unclear or poorly organized. QEA’s English Summer Camp addresses these issues by first reinforcing the fundamentals of grammar and proper structure. From there, students build their writing skills step by step through brainstorming, outlining, and revising.

2. Students get blanked out

Students get blanked out because they don't have any planning on what to write. This is typical for elementary students. They have no idea what are the important points, the structure and how to express their ideas. Instead, they write whatever comes to their mind. At QE English Summer Camp, we teach writing as a process, starting with brainstorming, mind-maps, organize key points. Only then they should start to write their paragraphs.

3. Students have trouble expressing their ideas

To express their ideas, students need to build a good foundation in writing. This starts with sentence structures, verb usage, vocabulary, and how to show the idea in different sentence form. We teach all these in our English Summer Camp in Vancouver.

Study Routine to Master English Writing

English Summer Camp

English Writing Skill is a long term development. To master this skill requires months of practice (from our experience, it takes 10-12 months). Our English Summer Camp provides a strong start wtih the student, and we have on going school year English writing classes to further that development.

It is essential for the student to develop a long term writing routine. This will ensure your child to build a good foundation and constantly improving. And our English Summer Camp in Vancouver is the starting point!

1. Develop a good reading habit

Writing starts with reading. A students developing writing skill will learn gradually by reading other people's books and literature. This is a gradual but important process. It is essential for students to develop good reading habits and routine. Our English Summer Camp provides tips and books list for students to engage in further reading.

2. Reading a variety of text

Each type of text - short stories, novels, literature, news articles, scientific papers have their purpose, and the way they convey ideas are different. To become a well rounded writer, the student should read a variety of text on a regular basis. This will help the student to develop ways to express their ideas in different scenarios, which will help them to write essays and projects throughout high school. In our English Summer Camp in Vancouver, we provide such list of sources, so our students can engage in reading a variety of different writings.

3. Summarize in your own words

Reading text is good, but that is only the first step. It is very effective for students to summarize the text in their own words. This exercise will help them develop critical reading (i.e how to pick key information) and writing at the same time. This method is very effective.
