In this module, you need to study a variety of texts closely for themes and techniques to understand how and why texts represent complex ideas, relationships, endeavours, and scenarios. Reflection is important part, when you read other people's experiences, you are learning and reflecting on their successes and mistakes. You also explore how different language forms and features such as imagery, mood and syntax are used for particular effect. This helps you to develop a stronger understanding of the power of language to communicate their ideas effectively.

The year 11 Common Module is the transition to senior English, where things become tricky. This is challenging because you need to develop your writer's voice, which means you need start using rhetorical mixture of vocabulary, tone, point of view and syntax to make their writing piece flow in a particular manner.

In this module, you will engage in a detail study of one complex multimodal or digital text for example film, media or interactive narratives. You will be learning about how technology can create and shape new possibilites for people to communicate and express ideas or experiences. You will also be looking at the ethics implications of contemporary communication technologies (digital technologies). Unlike other modules, this module's you are required to produce your own multimodal presentations. An example of this can be a visual PowerPoint presentation with a voice-speech (speech).

This module is challenging because mutimodal presentations are a completely new form of assessment that NESA added with the new syllabus changes, it is unlikely to be taught before Year 11 Moreover, this course is a study of contemporary communication technologies that involves lots of critically thinking about how multimodal text shapes own ideas and values, considering more about ethics and the role of the individual in the contemporary.

The film highlights ideas about? What defines us as human, ethics in contemporary worlds, identity and how contemporary texts can shape that?

In this module, you are to study a close reading of a print text - drama, poetry or novel analysing language features and the structure of the close study text. Learning how authors represents conventions and explore cultural identity relevant to their text.

This is challenging because you must know the text well enough in order to identify and extract quotes with literacy techniques from the text and to use them as evidence to support their argument. Another challenging part that most students struggle with is writing a strong thesis statement that can use as a guide to identify topics and specify an argument.

This module allows you to find reflections and connections of your own experiences in the text studied. The study of prescribed text provides you with rich opportunities that deepen your understanding of ideas about individual and collective human experiences.

This is challenging because you need to understand and explore different themes of human experience such as emotions, behavior, motivation represented in the prescribed text to build a strong argument for your essay.

In this module, you will be focusing on texts that challenges assumptions and stereotypes about culture and identity. Through the composers' personal experiences you will develop an understanding of indvidual and community identity, as well as cultural perspectives that are shaped in and through the prescribed text.

This is challenging because you need to demonstrate how composers used language to show their ideas and identify the different literacy techniques such as literary symbolism, irony, repetition that will help you to enhance your discussion of text.

Module B requires you to explore and analyse particular ideas and characteristics of a single prescribed text in depth, understanding the ways in how the composer makes their writing unique.

This is challenging because you need to have a deep and sophisticated understanding of the text and its language features in order to make an original idea about your personal interpretation of the text and meanings.

In what ways does The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time invite questions about acceptance and prejudice? In your response, make close reference to your prescribed text.
* Note: For this module, each prescribed text will have a different question.

Question: In the novel The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time, Haddon constructs challenging relationships that invite the reader to empathize with the characters.

Unlike other modules where you explore texts to understand the themes, module C is more about developing your complex ideas and written skills by evaluating how writers use language creatively and imaginatively to shape perspectives. In simple words, how text has been constructed. You will be working independently and collaboratively to reflect and strengthen your skills in producing highly crafted imaginative, discursive, and informative texts other than essays.

This is difficult because module C has various possible question types that require different text types. Unlike other modules, this module you need to write and prepare for 4 different text types. (Persuasive, Discursive, Imaginative and Informative).
* Note: During HSC exam students are likely given a choice as to which type they will use. But also likely won’t be given such a choice.

2020 HSC Past Paper - Compose a piece of imaginative writing that is set in a significant place.
Begin with the words:
This is my world now, and it can be yours too, if you like. A place can soak through your skin like sweat, and ooze into your heart and soul. Breathe it in, and let me tell you a story.

2021 HSC Past Paper - a) Compose a piece of imaginative, discursive or persuasive writing that develops ONE idea about luck explored in the stimulus provided.

b) Explain how the creative decisions that you made in part (a) were influenced by a prescribed text that you have studied.

Example of Practice Question:
a) Use the line given as a stimulus for the opening of an imaginative, discursive or persuasive piece of writing. In your piece of writing incorporate at least ONE example of figurative language that you have learned about through your study of the prescribed texts for Module C.

What is Trial Exams?
The Trial Examinations is the final internal assessment to prepare students for the HSC exam. Trial Examinations are usually designed in the same format and on the same content as HSC exams providing students with an insight into what HSC Examination will be like.

What is HSC Exams?
The HSC Examinations is the final examination that covers every topic students have studied throughout their HSC year. Most HSC exams goes for 2-3 hours but the time period of exams various depending on the course selected.

Why is it hard?
