We focus on helping students to understand, not memorize. Understanding the concepts is the first step. This is what we teach first. The next step is explaining the difficult problems to the student step by step, so that he understands the rationale behind each step, and not memorizing.
In the past 10 years, QE has a good track record of success. A have a lot of success with our students achieving IB score 6 and 7 (90%+), who were admitted to top universities such as Waterloo, Queen's, and Western University.

Pre-IB is an important time to build a good foundation, without which, the student is not ready to tackle the difficult IB curriculum in grade 11 and 12. Our Pre-IB tutoring program is one on one, focusing on good explanation that focuses on understanding, and not memorizing. We also teach the student important problem solving techniques as we go through the pre-IB curriculum. These techniques are essential for students to succeed in the Grade 11 / 12 IB programs.
Fast track in learning ahead on IB
Over the years, parents have requested us to help students to fast track and learn ahead. We have deep knowledge on the IB syllabus and offer such program as well.
The IB SL and HL syllabus approaches university difficulty. We have successful track record, in helping our IB students achieving 6 and 7. We provide quality lesson on teaching the concepts first, then showing the student how to apply the concept in difficult IB problems. IB is different from regular program in its difficulty and a variety of problems. Learning how to solve each type of questions is essential and this is what we teach.
Beside this, we provide IB level worksheets, so that our students can practice on a weekly basis, and accustomed to its level of difficulty. We also guide our students to purchase IB exams, so that they build confidence in tackling the IB final exam.

IB Chemistry Tutoring in Abbotsford
IB Chemistry is separated into Standard Level (SL) and High Level (HL). Standard level is slightly more difficult than high school chemistry 11 and 12. However, High level approach the difficult of first year university. To perform in IB chemistry courses, the student needs to understand and apply the concept in a variety of difficult, situation based problems.
IB Chemistry is a challenging subject. Many students resort to memorizing formulas and hoping to plug in a number to receive the answer - and do well on tests and exams. Oftentimes the teacher will change the question - especially on application problems, where the student will get student, result in poor grades.
Memorizing steps and equations doesn't work in IB chemistry. You need to start with the foundation (such as stoichiometry, or calculating equilibrium). The. next step is to understand the concept and know how to apply to specific problems on IB chemistry. Then the next step is to go through a variety of application problems, which is especially difficult in IB chemistry. Then learn important problem solving skills tailored to IB chemistry. These are all situation based questions that you will encounter on your IB chemistry tests and exams

IB Physics Tutoring in Abbotsford
IB Physics is separated into Standard Level (SL) and Higher Level (HL). Standard level is slightly more difficult than high school physics 11 and 12. However, Higher level approach the difficult of first year university. To perform in IB physics courses, the student needs to understand the concept and sharpen his or her problem solving skills, which is essential. There are units such as electromagnetism that is very abstract and difficult to comprehend. Same for diffraction grating.
IB Physics is a challenging subject for a lot of students. The key challenge is that IB Physics is problem solving based. Students are accustomed to math, where they will have a formula and "plug-in" the number to derive the answer, following the procedures and steps. For IB Physics, you need to know which formula to use in the first place and how to manipulate the formula according to the situation.
Memorizing steps and equations doesn't work in IB Physics. All questions in IB physics are application based, they are word problems where the solution changes along with the situation. The teacher can change the question slight, such as adding friction or an extra box, your entire solution - the equation you use, the givens, the approach, will be different. Understanding the concepts and apply them, instead of memorizing equations, is the key to perform well in IB Physics.

IB Math tutoring in Abbotsford
IB Math is separated into Standard Level (SL) and Higher Level (HL). Standard level is slightly more difficult than high school math, such as advanced functions and calculus. However, Higher level math approach the difficulty of first year university. Beside the limits and derivatives, students need to learn integration at first year level of difficulty. To perform in IB math courses, the student needs to understand the concepts and connect these concepts, and know when to apply which one in deciphering the problem.
IB Math is a challenging course for a lot of students. The key challenge is that IB Math cover a variety of topics and they are all intricately connected. Therefore, students need to have a deep understanding of the materials and know how to apply them. Secondly it depends a solid foundation on the student's part. Math is cumulative, therefore the student at IB Math must master grade 9-11 math. The first two steps of a solution is typically the new materials. However, all the subsequent steps, such as simplifying the answer is all based on foundation skills. Students lacking foundation skills will lose a significant portion of the marks.
Memorizing steps and equations doesn't work in IB Math. Most questions in IB Math are application based. Different scenario request adjustment on the equations and the solution is often time very different. Understanding the concepts and knowing when to apply what is really the key to succeed in IB Math

IB English Tutoring Abbotsford
IB English is a very demanding subject. It has a deep focus on English literature and the student needs to excel in essay writing and critical analysis to perform well in this course. Students are expected to analyze literature. The course is very intensive where students need to submit essays and writing tests / oral presentation on a regular basis.
Essay writing is an essential component of IB English in Abbotsford. What is a good introduction? How do you write a good thesis? How do you build an argument with evidence taken from the text? How do you tie your essay with the theme? All these are key elements to succeed in IB English Abbotsford. At QE, we teach each of these, so the student will gain the skill to write essays as required by the IB program. We have a rigorous system, where our tutors will guide the students / brainstorm to build the thesis / arguments / paragraphs. The student will then write his drafts. On the next sessions, our tutor will edit and explain the strengths and weaknesses where the student will make further modifications. Our program is very effective, where our IB English students had achieved high grades and got into top universities such as Waterloo and medical school in UK.
Critical thinking is another critical component of IB English in Abbotsford. The key challenge for a lot of students, is that they write plot summary of the text, where they should be analyzing the text instead. This will result in a significant lost of marks. We help students achieve their best by putting up a structural way of learning. We accomplish this by providing a proper lesson to help students review concepts, revisit homework in a stepwise order, and mock exams to practice for all subjects. Below is the list of our structural and systemic learning approaches:
It is not uncommon to see many students perform below standard because they usually are given test questions that are way complex than their assigned homework. Therefore, many of these students don’t get to score as high as 80's and 90's. At QE, we provide extra worksheets that are as difficult as what students face during tests.
Homework practices play a vital role in helping students achieve success; we hold on to this belief at Queen Elizabeth. Before students go on break at the end of the session, we assign homework packages to them and randomly check at the beginning of a new session.
We use a combination of lesson/concepts + application problems + homework to help our students achieve excellence and make them fit for admission into top universities.
Most of our competitors would sit back and wait for their students to ask questions, which is an ineffective method because the struggling students don’t know what to ask. Instead, at Queen Elizabeth, we actively teach using the approaches mentioned above.

We always ensure that our students have a sound understanding of concepts. We provide them with an in-depth knowledge of every topic. For instance, in Mathematics, we make the students understand each topic from basics before proceeding to the complex tasks. The students find it easy to treat complex tasks once the basics are well rooted in them.
We also make students understand the principle behind every lesson; this is to prevent them from getting confused during tests. In most cases, students tend to memorize steps, but they get confused during tests. We help our students to avoid this by letting them have a sound understanding of every step.

Queen Elizabeth is a private school of over nine years with full Ministry approval. Our tutors have full access to the teaching materials and plans. They are well informed about the curriculum. As such, they have an in-depth understanding of the building blocks from one step to the other. They know the requirements and everyday challenges of students in each grade.
For example, one of the main challenges for grades 10 and 11 students is Trinomial. Proper building of this foundation prepares the students well for the more advanced Functions and calculus of grade 12. Many students struggle because of a lack of appropriate foundational structure in lower classes. At QE, we help our students lay up a good foundation upon which they can build on.

They don't just tutor our students, oftentimes they serve as a role model and mentor to our students.
Queen Elizabeth tutor team is a team with a solid bond; our tutors' have an average tenure of 3 years. Most of our competitors operate as agencies or centers; their tutors are freelancers who come around and go. As such, they often deprive their students of the opportunity to get accustomed to a teaching pattern.
Our tutors are specialists in the subjects they teach. We won’t ask an English graduate to teach Mathematics. Our tutors are well trained and experienced in their fields.

If you aren’t performing well in the subject, chances are you have foundation gaps. The first step is really to address your foundation gaps. That’s also one of the focus on QE tutors in Abbotsford. Once we discover your gaps during the tutoring session, we will re-teach you that particular component. Take an example, a lot of grade 11 and 12 students struggle with factoring, that’s one of the common foundation gaps. We will then re-teach it. Now, once you understand how to perform it, you need to practice at least 10-15 questions, so it sinks with you.
The next step is to review the lessons after the tutoring session. The best way is to write your own study notes. Then you need to practice homework problems. If you do all these 3 things, you will see measurable improvements from QE tutoring in Abbotsford.

An IB student who does not have access to an IB tutor usually would face a great deal of stress. When an IB student does not have access to a tutor, he may feel isolated and alone. An ideal IB instructor should be able to make the student feel as if the subject is easier than it has ever been and instil confidence in them.
